twitch livestream

I’m HayleyTormenta on Twitch.

I try to archive all of my previous broadcasts. You can find my previous broadcasts here.

what games you can expect to see on my stream

  • Tomb Raider - both casual playthroughs and now speedruns on the PS4 (though still done casually)
  • random games I got from the library for the PS4/PS3
  • games played in foreign languages

streaming schedule

Currently, though I have no set schedule I am at least trying to stream on a regular basis (generally, Tues-Sat).

I tend to start streams either around 17:00 UTC (1p EDT) or 2:00 UTC (11p EDT).

languages spoken

  • English (native)
  • Spanish (I’m finally getting to the point where I can follow things without subtitles)
  • French (I’m almost entirely lost without subtitles, and even with them, I currently understand probably 25-50% of what is said)
  • German (super super rusty)

Languages I’m interested in but only have a handful of phrases down:

  • Swedish
  • Irish

why I play in foreign languages

In brief, it’s for immersion learning. I also use it as a way to feel less guilty about how much time I spend gaming, because hey, I’m learning a foreign language here.

It also can result in amusing moments. For instance, I will always remember the word farol in Spanish because of how I got trapped in a room in Tomb Raider where it was telling me to shoot the farol (IIRC, the message would not stay on screen long), but I didn’t get the hint because I didn’t know what a farol was.

And I will always fondly remember the first time I played through Far Cry 3 in Spanish (I’ve since replayed it in French). For me, it really heightened the immersion of the game because, here was this crazy island in the middle of nowhere, and I seriously felt like a stranger in a strange land because no one was speaking English. I don’t think that playing it in English would’ve felt anywhere near that immersive.
